Well, most girls love a romantic movie. I especially like old romantic movies. When it comes to my favorites, many of them have one line or scene in particular that is very memorable. So here’s a list of what I think are the most romantic movie lines ever.
This movie is a little more recent. How old do have to be before movies from your teen years are considered classics? Anyway, it’s Dirty Dancing. I love the end of the movie when Johnny (Patrick Swayze) says, “Nobody puts baby in a corner,” and pulls Baby (Jennifer Grey) up on to stage to dance with him. Yeah, it’s cheesy, but it’s still romantic.
An Affair to Remember is another favorite classic. How can you not love Carry Grant? So dapper and suave. In the final scene Nikki (Grant) realizes Terry (Deborah Kerr) is paralyzed. He spent months thinking she stood him up one night when they were supposed to meet at the top of the Empire State Building. Terry revels why she never arrived, “I was looking up. It was the nearest thing to heaven. You were there.” In her rush to get to Nikki’s side, Terry was struck by a car. So tragic, yet so sweet.
I can’t leave out Casablanca when Rick (Humphrey Bogart) says to Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), “We’ll always have Paris.” Oh, the heart break of ill-fated lovers who can not be together.
In it’s a Wonderful Life, George Baily (Jimmy Stewart) asks his future wife Mary (Donna Reed), “What is it you want, Mary? What do you want? You want the moon? Just say the word and I’ll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. Hey. That’s a pretty good idea. I’ll give you the moon, Mary.” That scene makes me go all mushy inside every time. Every time.
My all time favorite movie is Gone with the Wind. Ah, the romance, the pageantry, the dresses! I love Scarlett O’Hara, flawed as she is. If you’ve never seen this movie, you must. And you’ve got to read the book too. As good as the movie is, the book’s just that much better. It’s no surprise that my all time favorite line comes from this movie. Rhett (Clark Gable) tells Scarlett (Vivian Leigh), “You should be kissed and often– and by someone who knows how.” Oh, be still my beating heart! (Listen to it here.)
So what’s your favorite romantic movie line? Or maybe just favorite romantic movie?
Talk to me girls!

I know probably everyone would say this, but “The Notebook” is an all time favorite of mine. And “Love Actually.”
And being from Alabama, I can’t leave out “Sweet Home Alabama,” my favorite quote from it being…
boy:”Why do you want to marry me anyway?”
girl:”So I can kiss you anytime I want.”
SO SWEET!
My husband and I have been watching the old classic The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston. I never thought of this movie with Moses and the plagues as romantic…until I was watching it with my husband. The Egyptian Princess who is in love with Moses has many romantic lines that I never caught before…my husband and I giggled and laughed at these overly dramatic sayings…
Ramseys, “Is he a man or a god?”
Princess, “I prefer him a man.”
Princess to Moses, “Kiss me. Just kiss me.”
The Princess has an incredible way of making every line she says sound so breathy and romantic. We had fun watching it together…in this new light. Hey, rent it and enjoy some good ol’ Biblical romance! 😉
you did NOT include an audrey movie….come on! she’s the best….sabrina, breakfast at tiffany’s, roman holiday…all of them. i love her!
Goodness I love movies… especially romantic ones…
My favorite movie of all time is It’s a Wonderful Life… and that scene where they’re walking down the road singing “Buffalo girls won’t you come out tonight, won’t you come out tonight, won’t you come out tonight…” Is one of the best parts of the movie.
But for a runner up… a movie that holds a very special place in my heart, is When Harry Met Sally. If anyone reading this has never seen this movie, please do yourself a favor and rent it…. watch it several times… It’s funny,it’s romantic, it’s sad, and the combination of Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal is so perfect!
One of the last scenes of the movie, it is New Years Eve and Harry has just realized that he is in love with Sally (after years of friendship), and he is running through the streets of New York to try to get to a party where she is at… What he ends up saying to her at the end makes me swoon every time…
“I love that you get cold when it’s seventy-one degrees out, I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich, I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you’re looking at me like I’m nuts, I love that after I spend a day with you I can still smell your perfume on my clothes and I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it’s not because I’m lonely, and it’s not because it’s New Years Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of the life to start as soon as possible.”
twiight is so romantc to me. my favorie romantic line is when he says
edward: “isn’t enough to just be with me.”
Bella: ” For now.”
I was wondering if you have a larger file size for the Dirty Dancing Scene. I need it for a cake that I am going to try to make for work.
I’ve been looking all over google images, but can’t seem to find one. 🙂 Thank you!
I don’t actually have that picture. The one I’m using I found online somewhere. Sorry. But the cake sounds really cool!
