I went shopping with David and my mom last week.
It was close to lunch time, and I think David was a little cranky because he was getting hungry.
We were in the store for about five minutes when David demanded to be taken to the toy aisle, and insisted that someone buy him a toy.
I was about to reprimand him for this behavior when my mother stepped in.
I stood there dumbfounded as she immediately stopped shopping, pushed the cart back to the toys and told David to pick out something.
Here’s the thing — I can count exactly ZERO times that ever happened to me as a child.
If I’d acted that way, I’m pretty sure my mother would not have bought me a toy, I probably would have received a swat on the bottom and maybe even been taken home.
What a difference 33 years makes!
Amen! You know your parents in law, which would be my parents for all of you following along, are the same way.
Before we went in there, I told him he could have something. Yes, you’re right, we never bought you
many toys in the store, because we did not have the money. Grandmas can spoil them because we can send them home with the new noisy toy.
I AGREE!!! My mom did the same thing with my niece today. After she told her no more cheerios, my niece pitched a little fit, and she said, “Oh, okay”! HMMMMMMM, that would have NEVER happened when I was little!
But I do remember shopping with you when we were with Matthew’s parents. You and Matthew were too
busy playing hide and seek among the clothing racks to ever get ANYTHING. J.C. Penney. Remember?
Too true, too true – the same thing happens here! LOL
You know what they say, “grandchildren are your reward for not killing your own kids.” I tend to think there is a little payback in grandparenting too. Something to look forward – the fun of being the GOOD guy!
