I took David to the Dr. yesterday for his four year old check-up.
I don’t know which part of this story to tell first. I couldn’t have imagined that one little visit to the doctor would glean so many bloggy anecdotes.
There weren’t even any shots involved.
But this is David we’re talking about here.
Let me start at the beginning.
We got there a little early. David started playing with the toys in the waiting room. I caught myself wondering if any kids with Swine Flu touched the toys, then quickly realized that I was about to fall off the cliff of all that is sane and real, and put the thought out of my mind.
It didn’t take David long to zero in on a little girl about his age playing quietly by herself. David loves social interaction, and can not understand why anyone would want to be by themselves. If you are silent and alone, he feels it’s his duty to correct the situation.
David tried to talk to the girl. He told her of his passion for trains and love of Lightening McQueen. She just looked at him. He peppered her with questions, “What’s your name? What are you doing? Why don’t you talk? Do you like ice cream?” and she didn’t answer. The girl’s mom intervened, telling David she was shy.
I really could not have, in all my wildest imaginations, guessed at David’s response.
He got very close to the little girl, took her hand in his, looked deeply into her eyes, and in the sweetest and most sincere tone I ever heard him use said, “It’s O.K. I’m gentle.”
And the girl smiled, clearly smitten.
I suddenly flashed forward 13 years to David and his first girlfriend.
Oh, mercy.
There’s going to be trouble.
Maybe we should just lock him up now.
More of David’s Day Out at the Dr. to come…
That is too funny and I laughed all three times I read it. My daughter is that shy four year old. I’ll be sure to keep her away from Michigan when she hits her teeage years.
That is so funny! You may have trouble on your hands, lol!
Oh my! LOL
I laughed out loud when I read this. I cannot wait to tell his Uncle! What a little charmer my nephew is!
That is hysterical! I read this at 1:30am and had to wake my husband to tell him it was so funny. He wasn’t as amused :p Bet he’ll think it’s funny tomorrow!
too funny!! just be glad you’re HIS mommy and not HER mommy 🙂
What a cute story! He sounds like he is going to be a heartbreaker!
