It’s never any fun when your kid is sick.
It’s especially no fun when it means you’re stuck at home with them for endless days.
We had about six weeks this fall where either David or Wade was sick. We didn’t go to church for over a month and a half. We didn’t go out to eat. We didn’t go to the park. We didn’t do anything.
My husband still had to go to work of course, but I think I left the house only to go to the grocery store during that time.
Taking care of sick kids day after is tiring. And it can make you a little loopy.
What do you do with a sick four year old, too tired to play, but too bored to just sleep on the couch all day?
You occupy them with movies and TV.
When David was sick this fall he became fascinated with the 1980’s anime series Astroboy. We were going to take him to the new Astroboy movie, but he missed it because he had the flu. So I appeased with the the old episodes on Netflix.
Let me tell you, it’s awful. The animation and the dubbing of Japanese to English is terrible. It reminded me of Iron Chef, only not funny. There are 51 episodes, and he watched them all. Many times. It almost sent me to the loony bin.
I really hope we don’t go through another six consecutive weeks of illness ever. I don’t know if I can survive that again.
The only good thing?
The kids haven’t been sick since the fall. I think they caught everything there was to catch during those six weeks, and now they’re immune to everything.
