It was May 1993.
Janet Jackson’s “That’s the Way Love Goes” was at the top of the Billboard charts.
Home Improvement was the top television comedy.
Bill Clinton was dating interns.
We were rolling and cuffing our jeans, and wearing brown Eastland loafers at my school.
I’d never heard of a little thing called The Internet.
College was fast approaching.
And I was going to my senior prom.
I don’t write this because I’m waxing sentimental.
Prom? Way over-rated.
High School? Not the best years of my life.
My Date? I thought I was going to marry him. What 17 year old girl doesn’t think she’s going to marry her boyfriend? Thank the Dear Lord Above I did not marry him.
I just wanted to show you a picture of my dress.
Because I was at the mall the other day, and based on what I saw in the formal wear section, my dress is back in style.
Mom, is it still in the closet at home? Put that sucker up on Ebay and sell it as “Vintage”!
Oh, and you in the picture? We haven’t spoken in 15 years, so I didn’t know how to contact you to ask permission to post this photo. And just so you know, that feeling like I was going to die without you went away like two weeks after we broke up.
If only I’d known way back then how easy you would be to get over. I wouldn’t have wasted my time crying.
You were adorable all decked out in your frou frou dress! And isn’t it funny how we got all wrapped up in those guys in high school? We really did think they were the key to happiness at the the time.

Used that dress for paint rags just last week.
Garth Brooks says it best “Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers”. We think that what we want in high school is what we want for the rest of our lives, and Thank you Jesus he doesn’t listen to us. The guy I wanted in high school ended up introducing me to my hubby!
I graduated in 1993, and tought high school was not great too.
It’s sad all the time I spent crying over worthless relationships! I’m with you, so glad we didn’t stay with those people!
Love the pic!

How cute are you! Wow that brings back memories. Now I’m wondering if my prom dress is back in style. I’d actually be happy if it is, that would be better than the belly baring, cleavage showing fashion that I usually see at the mall!
And yes, I soo remember the heartbreak of teenage relationships. Sadly, I am reliving the whole nightmare with my teenager. I hope I survive it this time!

The dress is still in the closet. I’ll bring it to you Mother’s Day, if you want it.
This is awesome!!! I think you’re right about every 17 year old girl thinking she’s going to marry her prom date. I was stupid enough to actually do it! HA! Don’t tell the hubs I made that joke!!
I have been trying to find our prom pic…I think it would be awesome if you started a thing where we all showed our prom pic and linked up to one another. Vintage picture party! HA!…

funny how we were so adamant of the things we knew then, like marrying HS boyfriends.

Oh, wow, that’s awesome. Say, we must be the same age. I was 17 in 1993. My prom dress was navy blue with white lace. UUUCK!
