Dog Dish

Posted on September 9, 2010January 2, 2011

You know how most babies’ first snack food is Cherrios?

Well, I’ve tried and tried since Wade started chewing solid food to get him to eat Cherrios. He turned his nose up at them. So I tried the different flavors: Honey Nut, strawberry, even chocolate.

No go.

Then I started letting him sample David’s cereal. He usually eats something like Cookie Crisp or Lucky Charms. Yes, I know they’re full of sugar. They’re also the only thing I can get David to eat in the morning. But Wade didn’t even like the sweet stuff.

Wade, it seems, doesn’t like cereal of any kind.

Period.

Here’s the thing though. If I don’t keep the bowl of dog food up off the floor when Wade is in the kitchen, he goes straight for it. And eats it! Yes, Wade will not eat sweetened cereal, but apparently he loves dog food.

Go figure.

I contemplated purchasing another dog dish, fulling it full of Cheerios and putting in on the floor to see if Wade would eat them. But that doesn’t seem quite right, and I’m afraid it might bring child services out to my house for a visit.

A few days ago I bought Resese’s Puff cereal for David. And myself.

Yep, I’m 35, and I still eat kid’s cereal. Look, there’s a reason they put all that sugar in it. Because it TASTES GOOD!

Well, suddenly Wade was interested in the cereal. I gave him some, he ate it and asked for more.

I thought it was because he likes peanut butter.

He went on eating it for a few days, then suddenly it dawned on me why Wade really likes Reese’s Puff cereal so much.

It looks like dog food.

This is hilarious. If it makes you feel any better my sister used to eat dog food and she drank out of the toilet once with a spoon. Lucky for her, my mom is a freak about a clean house so I am sure the toilet was clean. I can’t believe how much the cereal looks like dog food. That is too funny also. 🙂

Remember Joey Roth at Lag. M.C.? He ate dog food too and grew up quite well. If they both look alike, you had better
taste it yourself before serving any. That means you will have to sample the dog food in order to have a comparison for memory.

    LOL! That is so funny!

We’ve got a baby that will eat anything — but the cat food is always a fave. Food bowls are moved now, though! Ha ha!

Thanks for the laugh today, Colleen! We all have “those” stories – that others ROLL about. Now you have one, too!

Can’t believe how similar in appearance they are! Don’t worry about eating kids’ cereal. My fave is still Cookie Crisp! 🙂

Oh my goodness, they really do look the same! Well, at least it’s real food if he’s eating the Reeses Puffs! My favorite is Lucky Charms, lol!
