Snake Grass

Posted on October 18, 2010January 2, 2011

Snake grass. It grows wild in our yard, and in the field behind our house. I think it’s really neat. Apparently everyone doesn’t, because when I Googled it there were a lot of articles entitled “How to Kill Snake Grass.”

See the little rings up the stem every so often?

Well, Snake Grass is hollow.

(If you’re ever in a survival situation? Instant straw. Because you never know when having access to a straw might save your life.)

And you can pull it apart at each of the rings…

Then snap it back together.

It’s like nature’s own version of Pop Beads. My son gets a kick out of playing with it.

Isn’t that cool?

How can you not see God a detail like that?

I played with that as a kid, too. I thought it was very cool.

I’ve never seen Snake Grass before, but you’re totally right…God is definitely evident in the little details of the world that everyone takes for granted.

So totally cool! God’s fingerprints are all over the place in nature. I love the “pop bead” action. I don’t think we have any snake grass here though.

My son would play with this for hours. I have never heard about it, but will be keeping my eyes open for it. Thanks for stopping by.

@JDaniel4’s Mom, I’d never heard of it either until I moved here. I think it grows in kind of damp spots.
