I am so not one of those people who puts up their Christmas tree the day after Halloween. I firmly believe the Christmas season begins after Thanksgiving.
But this year, I’m chomping at the bit to get The Yuletide underway.
It was a long year with Dave back in school full time, adjusting to David going to kindergarten all day, an 18 month-old who still doesn’t sleep through the night.
We live in Michigan, and like just about everyone else in this state, we took a hit from the lousy economy.
I guess I just want some merriment, and greenery and pretty lights.
Christmas will be fun this year. David is almost six. The wonderment and magic of Christmas is at it’s peek for him. Wade is old enough to enjoy the season for the first time.
I’m so eager to get things underway early, I considered buying a FAKE {shudder} tree. I always insist on the real thing. You can’t put the real thing up too soon, or it turns into kindling long before The Jolly Old Elf visits.
We found that out the year we were newly weds. I was so excited to celebrate our first Christmas. We put our real tree up in November. It was my first real tree, growing up my family’s tree was always fake. I didn’t know any better. I just figured you watered it, and it lived for weeks.
Well, I remember coming home from work to our little apartment a week before Christmas, and our poor tree was was wilted, and half-naked, its needles littering the floor.
I’m restraining myself. The Halls around here won’t get decked until the bird is carved and the Lions lose. Again. And the real tree won’t go up until three weeks before Christmas.
It can’t get here fast enough!
LOL at “The Halls around here won’t get decked until the bird is carved and the Lions lose. Again.” What a sad game it was yesterday!!
I went to K-Mart the day after Halloween to see what
left overs they might be trying to sell at a discount,
and to buy my Valentines. However, it was all Christmas. Valentines won’t be out until mid-December.
I would even fore go the fake tree if I could. She
puts up too much now and rearranges the furniture to do so. el-ed majors!
I used to want to put a tree up early. We had a kindling tree a couple of times. Now, it just seems like so much work to only enjoy for a few weeks. I’m trying to convince the hubs to let me buy a Martha Stewart 3ft prelit tree. I can decorate it, and then move it to the storage closet with so much ease! He and the kids are not down with my easy Christmas idea. Ha!
