Well, David survived kindergarten!
And so did I.
It was kind of a rough start. A lot of adjustment for all of us. But it ended well.
David’s last day of school was Wednesday. The kids put a program on for the parents that morning. Then we went back to the classroom for refreshments. David said good-bye to his teachers and friends for the summer, and that was the end of kindergarten.
I’m so proud of David. He’s come such a long way since last fall. When he started kindergarten the teacher recommended that he take an extra half day of kindergarten in the afternoon, because he didn’t perform well on an assessment test. I really didn’t think the test results were accurate, but I sent him to the class anyway. He ended up leaving the class just before Christmas, because he was so far ahead. He finished kindergarten performing above grade level on everything.
We discovered that David is a math whiz. He got a hundred percent on all but one math test he took this year. He’s also a good artist. That was a complete surprise, because before he went to kindergarten I could never get him color, draw or do crafts at home.
I am most proud though of the friendships David made this year. He proved a kind and loyal friend on more than one occasion.
I love this boy so much. I can’t wait to see what amazing things are instore for his future. I think there’s something pretty great. For now we’re just going to get ready for first grade, and enjoy the summer together as family.
The future will come soon enough.
We only have this moment now.
