With two little boys online shopping is a life saver. It’s so much easier to browse from the comfort of my home. That’s fine for buying books or home furnishing, but clothes shopping is a whole other story. It’s very difficult to buy clothes when you can’t try them on. If something comes in the mail, and it doesn’t fit right it can be big hassle to return it.
Today Lane Bryant, a leader in the plus-size fashion industry since 1911, and sister brands Sonsi, Catherines and Fashion Bug launched new technology that takes the guesswork out of online shopping for plus size clothing. Fashion Genius is a new tool available at sonsi.com that helps you shop for the three most difficult pieces of clothing to fit: Tops, pants and bras. You simply fill out a survey that includes questions about your body type and fashion tastes. Then the tool recommends clothing based on your answers. You can use the tool to mix and match your recommended clothing pieces into outfits you can buy.
Fashion Genius uses a special algorithm to choose questions for you, and to calculate it’s answers for you. Mathematicians, fashion industry leaders, and computer scientists worked together using statistics from thousands of surveys and fittings on real women to create the technology behind Fashion Genius. The end result of which is the right fit for you. To geeky? Don’t worry. The tool is simple to use. You don’t need to know anything about technology to get your perfect look.
I tried out Fashion Genius. The first thing it did was give me my Style Profile after I took the survey. According to Fashion Genius I’m “Fearless and trendy with a touch of feminine and causal.” I’ll take that, I guess. I’m not sure I’d call myself “trendy.” I mean I wouldn’t wear pink zebra stripes just because somebody said they were fashionable. I do try to keep up with current styles, and I’ll take a fashion risk once in awhile. It was fun just to answer the questions, and see what Fashion Genius said about my style profile.
Next I checked out the clothing options Fashion Genius recommend for me based on my fit and style assessment. Here’s the outfit I created from the recommendations:
I can definitely see myself wearing this out to the movies or even to David’s Open House at school tomorrow night. The pants and top are both styles I would choose, and that I think flatter my body type. I added the accessories. I love that purse, and it comes in pink too. It’s on my wish list.
