Two weeks ago my 1000th post quietly came and passed.
Yes, Ive written 1000 blog posts.
I know, that’s what I thought too. That’s a whole lot of jabbering about nothing to no one. That’s why I didn’t mention it.
I thought that at first anyway.
Then I realized it wasn’t all about nothing. Some of you shared your pain with me. Some of you laughed with me. Some of you cried with me. I know that because many of you commented, so someone was listening.
Next week will mark my fourth year blogging. I’m not usually one to mark blog-o-versaries. I don’t throw big parties. I don’t imagine anyone much cares. I know a lot of people think those 1000 plus blog posts are a big waste of time. But blogging gives me something to do at nap time besides stuff my face with chocolate and watch Oprah. Besides Oprah retired. I mean what would I do without blogging now that Oprah is gone?
The thing is all that time, all that work, all those posts started to pay off this year. I started making money blogging. I once hesitated to tell people that. I was always afraid they would ask, “Why would anybody pay you to do that?”
See, a lot of people think bloggers are a bunch of losers sitting around in their pajamas all day. I’m not a loser. I’m a wife, a mother and an intelligent human being. I also get dressed. Most days. Really those people are just jealous that they have to put on their pants and commute to work.
But blogging paid for all of David’s new school clothes this year. It paid for warm shirts and pants for Wade for this winter. It paid for us to spend the summer doing fun activities together as a family. It bought David new football shoes today. Next week blogging will pay for an unusually high electric bill because of unusually high temperatures this summer making the air conditioner run an usually long time.
I’m not getting rich from blogging, but it’s certainly adding to my family’s bottom line. Kind of like that chocolate adds to my bottom line. Only with more favorable results.
So a couple weeks ago I bravely changed my employment status on Facebook to: Owner at MommieDaze.com. I imagine some of my friends saw that, smirked and said, “Whatever. She’s crazy.” I don’t care. I enjoy blogging. Blogging is making my family’s life better. Blogging is my job, and it’s legit.
Laugh if you want.
I’ll be laughing too when I pay that huge bill with my PayPal account next week.
Thank you.
I have only been at this blogging thing for about 7 months. I hope that one day (I’m sure in the very far off future) I can turn it into something that will add enough to our “income” that I will not have to have a job outside the house as I am currently looking for. You give me hope.
Congratulations on your 1000 posts & going on 4 years!
Congratulations on 4 years and 1000 posts. Isn’t it an amazing feeling to get paid for doing something you love?
Aw! Congrats. I hope I have some of your success. I started blogging august 2011 and I really love it. I’m getting my blog revamped in 2 weeks which I’m really excited about it. Most important, I love the readers. It makes it worth it to me to blog when I get commentary. Again, congrats!
Congrats, you should throw a party…and invite me! 🙂 Yeah for you for finding something that you love that pays you.
Congratulations on your 1000 post! And I think blogging is great work for us mamas. 🙂 No laughter here.
YEAH baby!! Happy Birthday, Mommie Daze. Job well done.
Hello just found your blog. Read your 9/11 post that I thought was amazing! I read this one and all I want to say is, “YOU GO GIRL!!!” I don’t have my own blog but starting one soon but the stuff I do (like coupons, giveaways, freebies, etc.) my family and some friends think I’m a loser. I’ve even got into fights with my brother because he asked me, “Is that all I’m going to do the rest of my life?” I told him, “Yeah it is actually!” I’m a mother, wife, nurse, chef, teacher, maid, etc. and I’m an adult so yeah I can do WHATEVER! I loved that you wrote this post because I swear it sounds just like my life minus the blog part. People are jealous and most of the time you can tell that in their eyes and how they act. I know I can anyway. I don’t understand why someone can be like that. I don’t worry about how anyone else runs their life, what their occupation is, what they have, etc. If someone was doing good and getting nice things I would be happy for them. I guess that’s what separates me from alot of people. I guess you and I are alot alike and normal and those other people are jealous and unhappy with their lives. I think it’s awesome what you do and I’m a new fan of your blog!!!
Congratulations on 1000 blogs, I am very happy for you to be able to admit that this is your job. However I have one question, how do you make money? I am just getting into blogging and would love to make money doing it, but I am not very computer literate. could you point me to someplace that could help me,(I am one of those people that need it wrote out word for word). Any help would be great. Congratulations again.
@Faith Davis, I do it mostly by working with companies that compensate me for doing reviews and giveaways. Sometimes companies contact me, and other times it’s through networks. Here’s a good list of networks – http://moneysavvymichelle.com/2011/08/09/blogging-tips-tuesday-6-where-can-i-find-reviewgiveaway-sponsors/
