Why Blogging is Dead
Why Mommy Bloggers are Irrelevant
Why No One Read Blogs Anymore
You’ve probably come across articles with these or similar headlines. Every few months someone writes a funeral dirge heralding the demise of The Blog.
Well, blogging isn’t going anywhere. At least not where moms are concerned. Even if every other segment of the varied and vast blog-o-sphere goes dark tomorrow, mom blogs are here to stay.
Why? A new study proves what many of us in the Mom Blog niche already knew. Blogs improve the well-being of both the readers and the writers.
According to a report from *Maternal and Child Health Journal, a survey of 157 new mothers, conducted by Brigham Young University, found that those who write and read blogs feel more supported and connected. Authoring a blog also gives stay-at-home-moms opportunities to use talents and share accomplishments that might otherwise be shelved.
As a mom blogger, I’m thrilled this report validates what I and so many others do online every day . We’re not wasting time. Our writings aren’t trivial. We’re improving others moms’ lives while helping ourselves at the same time.
Win-win!
But I also wonder how many of you are thinking the same thing I did when I first learned about this study?
“Duh!”
Didn’t we, the collective Mom-o-sphere, already know that?
Isn’t that why, according to Mashable, **3,900,000 moms blog in the US alone? Isn’t that why our feed readers overflow with posts from other moms just like us?
If you’ve ever shed a tear, laughed out loud or lit up with a smile reading the words written by another mom —
If you’ve ever learned how to parent better, make more money or make a better cake from advice on a mom blog —
If you’ve ever felt relief because there in digital black and white was proof you weren’t the only one —
If you ever poured your heart out then received comment after comment offering support —
Then you know the value of the knowledge, encouragement, conversation and comraderie supplied by this community of moms who read and write blogs.
We didn’t need a case study to tell us this blogging thing was a good thing. We already knew.
And now the world does too.

**The Rise of the Mommy Blogger
Preach on sister! Mommy bloggers are here to stay!
I completely agree! Blogs are like online magazines, full of advice, ideas, and support. I will always read blogs. I can’t imagine not connecting with others in this way. Thanks for sharing!
Amen! Blogging is a wonderful way to find out that we’re not alone, and to share our experiences with each other, much the way women used to share at quilting circles or coffee klatches. It’s good for us, and it’s good for our kids, too, since a visit to the Momosphere often leaves us feeling better about our own situations. (That said, I sure wish some moms would go back to blogging a bit more, and doing fewer back-to-back giveaways and reviews. What happened to actually taking time to write an entry?!)
Thanks for the read. I love reading blogs and to know im not alone.
Well said, we all need an outlet. Mommy Bloggers are awesome!
