“I feel better, so much better! I feel better, so much better now!” Do your kids watch Doc McStuffins on the Disney channel? It’s mind-numbing, but I have that stupid song stuck in my head.
I really do feel much better. Last week I was ready to sell my kids to the highest bidder, and run off and join a writer’s colony. (Writers’ colonies aren’t as easy to come by as you might think. I Googled it.)
Then last weekend the boys went to my parents’ giving me a much needed break from them.
I spent a lot of time alone with those guys this summer. They’re funny, they’re sweet and I love them a lot. But, oh, did I need a few days without refereeing fights over toy trains, tv and who gets the first pancake.
We finally found some room in our schedule and our budget for a quick family vacation, so tomorrow we’re headed north to Mackinaw to enjoy the last few days of summer before school starts.
When we get back David starts second grade. (How did that happen?) This is Wade’s last year at home before he starts pre-school. My husband Dave, who went back to school 2 1/2 years ago, starts his senior year at Western Michigan University.
There’s something about the transition from summer to fall that feels like a fresh start. A new school year is a new chance to learn and grow. Possibility blows in with the crisp, cool winds. The leaves changing from green to red, orange and brown signal that it’s time for us to change into something brighter too.
I’m ready.
I hear ya, I’m ready too. In a bittersweet kinda way though. My little Molly starts kindergarten and I’m not so sure I’m ready for that. But I am ready for jeans, routines, and regular bedtimes!
Fresh starts are good! I too have felt like giving my child way recently only to have her do the sweetest thing the next day …. so I guess I will hang on to her. Every change brings new possibilities … whether we wanted the change to happen or not (This is something that I have to keep reminding myself). (stopping by from SITS and can’t wait to read more since I like the way you write) Thanks for visiting my blog … trying something new works well for me too …. there is that change bringing new again!
