boxtopsI was oblivious to Box Tops for Education until David went to kindergarten. Then a note came home from school asking me to save the little pink and yellow labels that come on everything from Cheerios to Betty Crocker Brownie Mix to Hanes underwear. I remember at the time that I didn’t think I bought that many brands that carried the little 10-cent coupons.

Well, two and a half years later and I can’t believe all the Box Tops I collect! Every month David takes them into school with him, and his school redeems them for cash to use for needs not covered by basic operating costs. It takes just a few seconds to clip the box top from its packaging after I use a product. It’s a small task that adds up to a lot when many people clip and turn in Box Tops to their school.

This winter General Mills is celebrating its Box Tops for Education program, because since 1996 it has contributed more than $525 million dollars to 90,000 participating K-8 schools across America.  Right now bonus box tops that allow shoppers to double their earnings are available on more than 50 million packages in grocery stores and online.

I feel good about helping our school, and Box Tops makes it easy. In a time of rising costs and shrinking budgets every one of those little 10-cent coupons helps. So be sure to clip those Box Tops, and send them into school. Maybe you don’t have school age kids. I bet you can find someone who does that will turn them in for you.

  4. I am a huge advocate for the Box Tops program. I count all the Box Tops for my son’s school. The program really does directly impact the student’s classroom.

  12. I have found lots of box tops in the bin outside my local Sam’s. People buy the product and just throw the packaging away. I am not to proud to dig in a bin to help my monkeys’ school
