I promised another style post this week, so here it is. It feels like mid-fall in Michigan even though we’re still in the throes of summer. I thought I’d do a transitional outfit between summer and fall. In Michigan you’ll find us wearing long-sleeves with shorts a lot this time of year.
Objects in the computer are thinner than they appear. Not really. The computer adds 10 pounds? Not buying that either, huh?
Chambray was hot last spring, and it’s still hot this fall. I love how a chambray shirt looks causal and tailored all at the same time. The polka dots on this shirt add a little flair to this classic. Statement necklaces are still big this fall too.
I’ve been studying how to do style posts, so that’s the gratuitous artsy photo. Also, I look thin it. Because you can only see my neck.
I kind of have a thing for birds, so I couldn’t pass this up when I saw it at the store. I just can’t bring myself to put on jeans when it’s technically still summer. I went with Bermuda shorts instead. There is no pose on earth will make Bermuda shorts look flattering by the way. I know. I tried 657.
One more artsy photo where I’m not looking at the camera. Standard fashion post requirement based on my research.
And just like last week everything cost $20 or less, and they’re all items I’ve had in my closet awhile.
Polka Dot Chambray Shirt – Old Navy $19.99
Gray Tee – Thrifted $2.99
Necklace – Walmart $8.00
Bermuda Shorts – Old Navy $19.99
I thought I’d get personal and talk a little bit about why I started doing this. Do you know for along time I just wore jeans, sneakers and t-shirts because that’s what all the other moms did? I wanted to fit in.
You see, I spent a lot of my life trying to fit in instead of just being me. It took me along time to figure it out, but life is a lot more interesting and enjoyable when you embrace who you are and share it with the world. So a few years ago I decided to start dressing in what I loved instead of what everybody else wore. A lot of the time I’m the only woman in the room wearing a skirt, but that’s my personal style. And I don’t make excuses for it. Anymore.
So I guess this is just one more step into really being me. And maybe it encourages someone else to be themselves too.
By the way, there’s nothing wrong with jeans and sneakers if that’s what you like. I have to admit to you though that I don’t even own a real pair of sneakers, but I do own eight pairs of boots. It’s kind of an obsession. I’m sure there will be a post about boots coming soon. Now go spend the week being YOU!
I love skorts and I wear them all summer long. They are my go-to short. And yesterday I was wearing long sleeves too!! I agree with you that its best to find your own style!!
Amen sister!! I was always the person who walked into a room feeling awkward for what I’d chosen to wear or wearing something ‘in’ but feeling horrible in it. I have 7 sisters-in-law who are fashion divas so it made it even worse. But, I’ve come to realize that I’m not fashion forward at all. I like what I like, and I’m not going to make excuses for it. You look super cute btw, and I love your necklace!
Love the outfit and I really love that necklace. Necklaces do make an outfit at times. I have an old owl one I got from H&M a couple of years ago and it complements almost everything. I love these mama-styled posts. 🙂
I seem to be in a rut style wise. I wear nothing but shorts and t-shirts. I’ve lost weight, which is great, but it has left my body a little saggy in places I’m not used to being saggy. So its hard to find something that is flattering and easy. Maybe one day I’ll venture away from boring. We’ll see. I love your outfit though, it’s inspirational seeing you dress like yourself.
Loving the necklace! Its fun to see what you can put together from your closet.
It is cooler here as well, but I am so not complaining! I will admit, I am a jeans or yoga pants kind of girl. 🙂
I love the look and the necklace is awesome! I so know what you mean, I am never the type to “fit in.” I always feel just a little bit different, LOL, sometimes a lot different and it is hard to learn to be comfortable being you. And YOU are so funny! A great post.
Cute outfit. I understand not dressing like the crowd. You need to wear what makes you feel good about yourself. No one will ever have the occasion to call me a fashion diva. I only have about 3 pairs of shoes in my closet, and one purse at the moment.
I like the necklace as well, but my personal fav is the gray tshirt that was thrifted! B/c I love thrift stores/garage sales, etc. (my personal style 🙂
I love your sense of humor. You crack me up!
and you always look so cute when i see you! way to be embrace who God made you to be. isn’t it a refreshing relief??! 🙂
