If you’re looking for an easy Halloween costume Idea how about dressing up like one of the guys from America’s favorite TV show, Duck Dynasty?
Dressing up like a member of the Robertson clan is a simple homemade Halloween costume idea since all you need is a pair of camouflage pants, solid color t-shirt, sunglasses, beanie hat or bandana and a long beard. Meet Wade, the newest member of the family.
The beard is probably the hardest of those items to come up with. I searched my local big box stores, and not a single one had a fake beard for sale which surprised me. But not to worry, I just made my own. Out of feathers. Which is appropriate since were talking about a family who built their fortune selling duck calls.
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Duck Dynasty Halloween costume beard:
- Feather trim (Wait for it.)
- Felt
- Elastic
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissors
Step 1: Cut out a piece of felt, preferably one that matches the color of your feather trim, in a half oval shape. Cut an opening in the felt for the mouth.
Next hot glue the feather trim to the felt.
Start with a piece across top for above the lip, then glue strips length wise to make the rest of the beard. I used three strips going down.
After I had all the trim glued on I glued a strip of felt across the back to help hold the trim together where it wasn’t attached to the main piece of felt. It’s kind of hard to see in this photo since everything is black.
Then I glued a piece of elastic to the back that fits over the head and ears to hold the beard on. It would be better to use black elastic, but they didn’t have any at my local store.
After that I trimmed the beard to get the length and shape I wanted. That’s it! Would it be easier to just buy a fake beard? Sure, if you can find one. But if you can’t find one, this is an easy way to improvise.

You are so creative! I love that!
It looks really good! As Brady told me the other day, “Everybody likes Duck Dynasty!” It seems to be so 🙂
we had Duck Dynasty day/ camo day at school the other day for homecoming week and I saw some amazing costumes. I wish i had seen this, I would have made it for my son for the day. But he is dressing up as someone from DD for halloween so it will still come in handy. Great thinking. 🙂
