Thanksgiving is just a couple days away. It’s time to give thanks for everything. Even the stuff we might not want to admit.
1. Nap time. If you’re lucky enough to have kids who still take naps, you look forward every day to an hour or two when you can eat chocolate in the open and watch something besides Team Umizoomi on TV.
2. Bed time. Even if they don’t take naps there’s always bedtime. Once the kids are tucked into bed for the night mom is off the clock.
3. Drop-off birthday parties. There’s nothing like someone inviting you to leave your kids in their care for a few hours while you go get a pedicure. The money you dropped on the present is totally worth it.
4. Disney Jr. How would mom ever make a phone call or the get the toilet scrubbed without Mickey and all his other electronic pals to distract the kids for a few minutes?
5. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. So it’s not really a part of well-balanced diet and who knows what the cheese is really made with. But the kids will always eat it, and it’s so easy to make when you’re tired.
6. The end of soccer season. Or whatever sport you’ve shuttled your kid to for weeks and watched from the sidelines. Moms love to cheer their kids on, but sitting through rain, snow and sleet while Tommy throws a ball around gets to even the most enthusiastic cheerleader after a while.
7. School lunches. In spite of new government regulations they’re still not that healthy, and they don’t taste any better than when you were in school. But on days you don’t have time to pack the lunchbox it’s good to know Cindy won’t go hungry thanks to greasy pizza and mystery meat nuggets.
8. Pajama Day. Glorious pajama day! There’s nothing better than putting your kids to bed already dressed for the next day. Now you might have time to pack their lunch. Or have an extra cup of coffee.
9. Going to the bathroom. Let’s face it, your time in the bathroom may be the only five minutes you get to sit down, and there’s even a lock on the door.
10. Under wire bras. Motherhood isn’t kind to the body. Thank God for under wire and spandex to lift and squeeze everything back into place.
What secret mom things are you thankful for this year?
I’m not so secretly thankful for the gym, specifically the gym’s childcare. Thanks for watching my kids while I put in a low effort workout and then showered for 30 blissful, uninterrupted minutes. They don’t think moms go there every time for the workout right?
I like a work in my sweats day once in a while. I can do it every day since I work out of the house, but I try not to all the time since it might make me feel like taking a nap. Ok in all seriousness, I look forward to quiet time over the holidays.
Sleepovers! Girl, you forgot the sleepovers. When my kids get to go to grandma’s house for the night, oh praise the lord! lol
LOL, I don’t get to do the mac and cheese (weird kid hates it) or lunches (he’s allergic to egg and egg is in EVERYTHING) but I LOVE bedtime, love date nights when grandma comes over AND gets up with him in the morning too, love days he sleeps in until 9 (rare). I love that kid, but alone time is – well, you know – almost non-existent!
Nintendo saves my sanity from time to time!
