10 Things Parents Love that Kids Don’t

Posted on August 13, 2014February 25, 2017

1. Naps

Children will do anything to get out of taking a nap including throwing a fit, sneaking out of bed and asking for multiple glasses of water. Most adults would give anything for a two-hour nap every day. In fact, if you tell a parent to go take a nap, they’ll probably gladly drop whatever they’re doing and go snuggle under a blanket.

2. Sitting still

Most kids would rather be running, jumping and climbing than sitting still most of the time. Even when they do sit down they fidget and squirm if they stay in one place very long. Mom and Dad love to sit down and relax. They’re OK with staying in one place and not moving for an hour or two. Maybe they’ll even take one of those naps. Of course, the second they get comfortable they’ll hear, “MOM!!! DAD!!! ”

3. Coffee

The taste it too strong and too bitter for most young pallets, but Mom would never get through the day without a cup of two of this life-giving force.

4. Kissing

Want to gross your kids out and get them back for all the grief they cause? Just kiss your spouse in front of them. They’ll gag and run away.

5. Going for a walk

It’s amazing how these children who don’t want to nap and can’t sit still have enough energy to ride their bikes and skateboard all day long until you mention going for a walk. Suddenly their feet hurt and their ankles have cramps and they are, “sooooo tired.” Parents however enjoy a relaxing stroll through nature every now and then when they aren’t trying to take a nap.

6. Silence

Mom and Dad love a quiet room to read or work in without the distraction of TV or music. Kids love noise. They love noise so much that if there isn’t any ambient noise they’ll create their own with nonstop talking and sound effects.

7. Fancy restaurants

For parents there’s nothing nicer than sitting down in a quiet restaurant where there isn’t a chicken nugget in sight and the napkins are made from actual cloth. Kids turn their noses up at any place that doesn’t serve pizza or french fries. Besides why would they want to eat someplace where they have to sit still and be quiet?

8. Salads

Many children don’t care for vegetables. Even if they’ll eat the occasional carrot stick or plate of cheese-smothered broccoli, they revolt if you mix the veggies all together. And you tried to cover it all up with ranch? How dare you! However, Mom loves a good salad, especially if she’s still trying to lose the baby weight, nine years later.

9. Sleeping in

Mom and Dad love nothing more than sleeping until 8 or even 9am on Saturday morning. Until they hit puberty kids want nothing to do with sleeping in. They’re up at the crack of dawn ready to bounce off the walls. As long as you don’t ask them to take a walk.

10. Dramatic movies

If it isn’t animated and filled with lowbrow bathroom humor kids just aren’t interested in it. Probably why there aren’t many G-rated movies at the Sundance Film Festival.
