Heroes, villains, drama, suspense, action and even romance. The Bible has all the elements of an epic narrative. It’s the perfect fit for a graphic novel. The Action Bible is exactly that, bringing Bible characters and stories to life like no other picture Bible does.
The complete Action Bible was one of the first Bibles my oldest son David owned. Even before he could read, he would look through the pictures and recognize some of his favorite stories like Noah’s Ark and Jonah and the Whale. As he grew older and learned to read, The Action Bible was an exciting way for him to go deeper and become familiar with other stories.
I’ve always thought the Bible was exciting. There are battles that rival scenes in blockbuster movies. Flawed, relate-able heroes like King David fill the pages, and let’s not forget Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice to literally save the world. But sometimes kids need a little help to visualize everything that’s happening. The colorful illustrations in The Action Bible help fill in the little details and make the people and events very real. The visual aspect helps kids understand what’s happening. Also, the comic book like format really appeals to today’s kids who have grown up on Marvel’s Avengers. In fact, The Action Bible is illustrated by Sergio Cariello who worked for both Marvel and DC Comics.
Now, The Action Bible has come out with a brand new graphic novel series that goes deeper and expands on individual Bible stories. David read the first installment, The Battle Begins: The Story of Creation, that tells about God creating the earth, how Lucifer became a fallen angel and about the fall of man. Even for me it brought a new understanding of Lucifer’s story. What I really appreciate most is that the story doesn’t just end with Adam and Eve sinning and getting kicked out of the garden. Rather the last page is a picture of Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus, leaving you with the hope of salvation and redemption.
The Battle Begins: The Story of Creation is available at Family Christian as well as other Action Bible products. One lucky ready will win a $25 Appreciation certificate for use at Family Christian. Use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter.
