I misplace my keys all the time, but once I lost them. Really lost them. Like the it’s-nowhere-to-be-found kind of lost. They were on the counter in the evening. The next morning they were gone. We tore the house apart looking for them. I searched the same places over and over for days. It was like they vanished into thin air. Besides all my keys to the house, the only key to our mini van was on that key ring. We didn’t find my keys.
While we searched, the van sat stranded in the driveway, so my husband and I had to share our other vehicle. When we finally gave up and purchased a replacement key from the dealer, it cost us 300 bucks, because it was one of those special security keys with a chip in it.
My keys went missing in the spring. Later that fall when it started to get cold, I took my son’s winter coat out of the closet to wash it. I checked the pockets, and there was my missing key ring. We’ve still never figured out how my keys ended up in my little boy’s coat pocket, but it was definitely a place I never thought to look.
If I had Tile on my key ring, I would have found my keys right away, avoided a lot of frustration and saved $300.
Tile is a little device that you attach to anything you don’t want to lose. It uses Bluetooth and an app on your phone to locate your lost item. I think it’s something all moms need to simplify their lives.
Tile is easy to set up. Just download the Tile app to your phone and register you account. It’s available for Android and IOS. Next open the app and activate your Tile by pressing on it. Follow a few simple steps that tell the app to what item you attached your Tile. That’s all there is to it.
So, let’s say I did have a Tile on my key ring when I lost it. I could have opened the Tile app, told it to find my keys and the Tile would have sounded an alarm that alerted me to their location. With Tile it’s in the first place you look, not the last.
It works with the app on any phone, so if you stick a Tile on your phone and lose it, you can use a friend’s phone to find it.
What if you lose something where it’s out of range from your phone? The Tile app uses GPS to keep track of the last place it saw your lost item. When you can’t find something don’t you always think, “Where was the last place I had it?” Tile gives you the answer and shows you on a map.
Tile has one more really cool feature. It’s called Community Find. If you still can’t find your item, you can mark it as lost with the app. When someone else with the app on their phone walks by your item, it sends an alert to your phone with the location. It’s completely private. No one else is notified of your item’s location but you. Then you can use the map on the Tile app to track down your stuff to the exact location.
I misplace stuff all the time. My kids misplace my stuff all the time. My youngest likes to “borrow” things and hide them under his bed. Tile keeps me from going into panic mode when we should have left five minutes ago, and I don’t know where I put my purse.
One Tile only costs $25. I think it’s totally worth it to save your sanity and the cost of replacing your lost stuff. Mother’s Day is coming up. Treat yourself to a Tile or add it to your wish list. It really will make your life easier.
One reader will win their own Tile. Just follow the directions in the widget below to enter.
(Begins Midnight 4/28)
I lose my sunglasses way too often! (and I admit.. sometimes they are on my head..)
It’s either my phone or my keys. I have one of those cars now where you don’t have to insert the key to turn on the car, it just has to be in the car. Well, that’s nice except when I know it’s in the car but not exactly where!
I lose my keys the most. I like to blame it on the kids but it’s usually my fault.
I would say the one item that I lose the most would have to be my iPhone
First my phone then my glasses
I lose my keys all. the. time.
I’m not sure how! I’ve tried several different methods to keep track of them but they must wander off on their own.
I always lose my keys, but now that I have a daughter it makes me crazy when we lose her shoes or her favorite toy right when we are ready to leave!
Definitely keys.
it depends on the day. i freak out more when i lose my phone.
i lose m keys most often
Seems I’m always misplacing my reading glasses.
I lose my keys all the time!
Phone first, then ATM card, then keys.
Well, I usually lose my phone but lately it has been my ATM card twice. I don’t seem to ever lose my keys.
It’s usually my phone that I lose around the house.
I am totally guilty of losing my keys the most often (usually my 1 year old’s fault who has an obsession with the car keys).
I lose my keys more often than I care to admit 🙂
