I grew up in a little town in Indiana where everyone was either Amish or a basketball star. Except me. I spent my time on the stage and in the school newspaper office while all the other kids were in the gym.
I’m a pastor’s kid, teacher’s kid and an only child. Somehow I managed to survive all three. Growing up in church and in a Christian home, I developed a deep faith and conservative values that continue to shape my life and family.
I went to Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN where I earned a BA in Communications and an AA in Journalism. I met my husband Dave at college too. I moved to West Michigan when we married in 1998, even though I once vowed I’d never move any farther north than South Bend, IN. Dave runs a small business and is working on his MBA. I know it’s a cliché, but Dave and I are best friends. I can’t imagine doing life without him.
David, our oldest son, is nine. He’s smart, serious, tender-hearted, and strong-willed. Parenting David is a blessing and a challenge! Wade, our youngest son, is four. He’s laid back and care-free. David is the straight-man and Wade is the funny-guy. Together they make the perfect comedy team.
Before I became a mom, I worked as a Communications Specialist for a small manufacturing company. Prior to that I was a newspaper reporter.
Growing up I thought I wanted to be a career woman. One day I realized I’d rather be home raising a family. So after seven years of sitting in a cubicle, I quit my job and had a baby. The leap from office life to SAHM was a big adjustment. I love being a mom, but it’s my hardest job yet!
I started writing at Mommie Daze in 2007, because after being home with a small child for two years I needed a creative outlet. You can only watch so much Rachael Ray and Dr. Phil before you want to stick a fork in your eye.
